Who wanted to adopt the baby said they want to provide the child with education and other basic requirements which could help him to become a good citizen
The miraculously survived newborn baby who was thrown out of window of a fourth-floor flat in the capital on Monday is now a coveted gift for many.
Fateha Akhter, married four years back, with no child of her own wants to adopt the baby boy.
Not only Fateha, a number of people contacted the hospital authorities expressing their willingness to adopt the three-day old nameless boy.
Ad-din Hospital is providing treatment to the boy.
Fateha lives on a flat of the same Bailey Road building from where the baby was thrown out last Monday.
“The baby will get a better life if she is given to my custody or to somebody else,” said Fateha.
The boy came to the spotlight after he miraculously survived after being thrown out of the fourth floor by his own mother.
His mother Beauty who is a domestic help gave birth to the boy in her employer’s home. As the baby was born out of wedlock, apparently, fearing the social stigma Beauty threw out the baby as soon as he was born.
Beauty claimed to police that the father of the baby is her brother-in-law.
Other people who wanted to adopt the baby also said they want to provide the child with education and other basic requirements which could help him to become a good citizen.
Hospitals Manager Abu Syeed Mollah told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday a number of families have contacted with them to adopt the baby but they suggested that they should communicate police in this regard.
Abu Syeed said the baby’s condition is improving. “The baby has a fracture in its right leg and an x-ray was done. He also has injury in his head. We are trying our level best,” he said adding that the hospital is bearing the medical expenses of the baby.
Beauty is also receiving treatment at One Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to her pregnancy related complications.
Bilkis Begum, coordinator of the OCC said, Beauty’s physical condition is improving. “She needs counselling. Once she is better we will provide her counseling,” She added.
The baby boy was rescued by police after some locals informed them about the baby boy.
Meanwhile, Ramna police station OC Mashiur Rahman yesterday told the Dhaka Tribune that the baby was transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
He said they were waiting for the newborn and its mother to recover. “We will take legal action over Monday’s incident.”
