Five day labourers were killed and two others injured as a truck carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch in front of the main gate of Barapukuria Coal Mine in Parbatipur, Dinajpur early yesterday.
Of the deceased four were identified as Rezaul Islam, 40, son of Abdul Malek, Ismael Hossain, 42, son of late Abdul Karim, Zafrul, 38, son of late Nababuddin, and Dilip, 36, son of Ashu Chandra.
All of them were residents of Harirampur village in Nababganj upazila of the district.
Officer-in-Charge of Parbatipur police station Mahmudul Alam said the accident had taken place when a wood-laden Dhaka-bound truck fell into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering around 12:30am, leaving five labourers dead on the spot and two others injured. The injured were admitted to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.
