9 killed in road accidents in 3 districts

At least nine people have been killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Dinajpur, Gazipur and Chittagong districts. 

Our Dinajpur Correspondent reported: Five day labourers were killed and two others injured as a truck carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch in front of the main gate of Barapukuria Coal Mine in Parbatipur on Wednesday.

Of the deceased four were identified as Rezaul Islam, 40, son of Abdul Malek, Ismael Hossain, 42, son of late Abdul Karim, Zafrul, 38, son of late Nababuddin, and Dilip, 36, son of Ashu Chandra. All of them were residents of Harirampur village in Nababganj upazila of the district.

Officer-in-Charge of Parbatipur police station Mahmudul Alam said the accident had taken place when a wood-laden Dhaka-bound truck fell into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering around 12:30am, leaving five labourers dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were admitted to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.

Our Chittagong correspondent reported: Three people were killed, including a physically challenged person, in separate accidents at Hathazari and Mirsarai upazilas in the morning.

The deceased were Md Mostafa, 40, a helper of a truck, Monir Ahmed alias Mona Mia, 80, and Joynal Abedin, 40, a commuter, said police sources.

Sub-Inspector of Hathazari police station Khairuzzaman said the accident had taken place around 10am when a Khagrachhari-bound truck smashed another parked truck in Kathirhat area as the driver was trying to save the physically challenged Mona, leaving two people dead.

In another incident, a passer-by, Joynal, was run over by an unknown vehicle on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Borodaroga Hat area of Mirsarai upazila.

Our Gazipur Correspondent said: "A pedestrian was killed as a truck knocked down him at Sripur. The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 55, a resident of Mulaid area of the district."
