DMCH doctor: Beauty deeply scarred

Update : 02 Feb 2016, 07:24 PM

Beauty Akhter, who allegedly threw a newborn baby out of the fourth floor of a building, was mentally scarred, doctors said.

She was undergoing treatment at One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). OCC Co-ordinator Bilkis Begum told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday that they had ran forensic tests on her.

“We will provide her counselling as we found her deeply scarred both mentally and physically,” Bilkis said adding that they would run DNA tests to determine Beauty’s age and relationship with the newborn.

The newborn, thrown out of a flat at Bailey Road on Monday, miraculously survived the fall, said Sub-Inspector Aminul Islam of Ramna police station. Beauty worked as a domestic help at the flat. The baby’s condition has improved after treatment at Dhaka’s Ad-Din Hospital, its manager Abu Syeed Mollah said. The baby has a fracture in its right leg and would undergo an MRI scan.

Ramna OC Mashiur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that they were waiting for the newborn and its mother to recover. “We will take legal action over Monday’s incident after that.”

Her employer Firoza Begum had told the Dhaka Tribune that Beauty had been employed at her house since childhood. “She quit last year and went to her village home in Sirajganj. She returned several months ago. We did not know she was pregnant. Her body never showed any sign of pregnancy.”

SI Aminul said during preliminary questioning, Beauty had admitted to throwing out her baby.
