The High Court has rejected a writ petition from BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s mother-in-law Syeda Iqbalmand Banu, seeking a stay on the trial procedure of a corruption case against her.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain summarily rejected the writ petition yesterday with some observations, which will be released in its written order.
Anti-Corruption Commission’s lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said the ACC filed the case with Ramna police station on January 30, 2014, against Iqbalmand for not submitting her wealth statements to it.
On January 26 this year, she filed the petition with the High Court praying to this court to quash the proceedings of the case.
She also prayed that the ACC be directed to issue a fresh notice asking her to submit her wealth statements. She earlier did not reply to ACC’s notice of October 10, 2011, saying that she had not received it, which resulted in the lawsuit by the ACC.
