Prachyanat brings Bon Manush on stage

Update : 01 Feb 2016, 06:27 PM

Theatre troupe Prachyanat will stage its much-acclaimed production Bon Manush today at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Directed by Bakar Bakul, the play is based on American playwright Eugene O’ Neill’s The Hairy Ape.

The play depicts O’ Neill’s social concerns for the oppressed industrial working class. The Nobel Laureate playwright’s drama features how unjustly the working class is treated through the tragedy of a brutish person named Yank.

The Hairy Ape was received largely as thought-provoking entertainment in O’Neill’s day, and it continues to provide readers of today with an insightful view of a pivotal time in American society, ultimately exploring human nature and a society that would endanger and disassociate many of the hard-working people within it.

Rifat Ahmed Nobel designed sound for the play, while Parvin Sultan Koli choreographed, and ABS Jem designed the set and lighting.
