China miner rescued after 36 days

The first of four surviving Chinese miners has been rescued after being trapped for 36 days underground, Chinese state media say.

The miner was lifted to safety at the gypsum mine in the eastern Shandong province. Another three miners are still underground.

China's CCTV broadcast dramatic footage of the man appearing on the surface and then being taken to hospital.

A number of people were trapped after the mine caved in late December.
