Update : 29 Jan 2016, 11:24 AM

Job seekers blocked Shahbagh intersection for about one hour demanding the extension of recruitment age limit for government jobs.

Leaders of Bangladesh General Students' Parishad started demonstration for raising entrance age limit to 35 years around 4pm Friday, halting the transport movement on the busy intersection. Currently, the age limit to apply for civil service is 30.

Later, police dispersed them around 4:45pm and cleared the road.

Meanwhile, police detained the organisation's president Md Imtiaz Hossain and general secretary Nuruzzaman Chandan from the spot.

Additional Deputy Comissioner of Police (Ramna zone) Md Ibrahim Khan told the Dhaka Tribune that the duo were held to calm the situation.

"They will be freed later," he added.

The demonstrators alleged that police charged baton on them.

One of the demonstrators, Md Shakhawat Hossain said: "Bhawal University College student Abdul Ali was injured during the baton charge. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital."
