PWAB: Train fare hike illogical

Update : 28 Jan 2016, 07:32 AM

The Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh (PWAB) has termed the recent hike in the railway fare as illogical.

Leaders of the organisation made the statement in a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity on Thursday afternoon.

Terming the hike as illogical, they also demanded the government not to increase the railway fare.

While speaking at the event, economist Anu Muhammad said: “Corruption and mismanagement should be decreased and the railway properties should be used in an efficient way in order to overcome the losses of this sector.”

He also urged the government to give facility to the railway authorities to buy fuel at a cheaper price as the price of fuel has already gone done across the world.

Earlier in the month, the Railways Ministry has recommended raising train fare by 7.8% with effect from February.
