Tarana Halim sues fellow activist for signature forgery

Update : 25 Jan 2016, 07:42 PM

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote President Tarana Halim has filed a case against the organisation’s general secretary for allegedly collecting money by forging her signature.

On behalf of Tarana, who is also the state minister for posts and telecommunications, her Assistant Personal Secretary Joydeb Nandi lodged the case against Arun Sarker Rana.

The case was filed with Shahbagh police station in the capital on Sunday night.

According to the case, Rana collected money for the purpose of advertising and sponsorship from different organisations in 2014, 2015 and this year. Rana also sought sponsorship from Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd.

He was accused of doing all these by forging Tarana’s name and signature on Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote’s letterhead.

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Siddique told the Dhaka Tribune necessary measures would be taken against the accused.

But Rana denied the allegations and said: “Not only Tarana’s signature but even mine was forged in the letter that was sent to Teletalk requesting money.”

“A company got Teletalk advertisement by forging the signatures of Tarana and mine. To talk about this, Joydeb Nandi called me the day before yesterday, and I told him the same thing,” he said.

“I think this is a conspiracy to remove me from the post I hold in Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote.”
