Bills seeking to around double the salaries, allowances and discretionary grant of the president, the prime minister, the ministers, the state ministers and the deputy ministers have been placed in the parliament.
Agriculture Minister Matiya Chowdhury, in-charge of cabinet division in the parliamentary affairs, on Monday placed three separate bills — The President’s (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2016, The Prime Minister’s (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and The Ministers, Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the House.
According to the bills, the basic pay of the president will be Tk1,12,000 from existing Tk61,200. The basic salary of the prime minister will rise to Tk1,15,000 from Tk58,600.
The draft bill set the salary of each minister at Tk1,05,000 instead of Tk53100. The basic salary of state ministers will go up to Tk92,000 from present Tk47,800 while that of the deputy ministers to Tk86,500 from Tk45,150.
The amount of discretionary grant for the president, the prime minister, the ministers, the state ministers and the deputy ministers were also proposed substantially.
Discretionary fund for the president was proposed Tk27,00,000 from Tk15,00,000, for the prime minister Tk1.5 crore from Tk1crore, for ministers Tk10,00,000 from Tk4,00,000 for state ministers Tk7,50,000 from Tk3,00,000 and for deputy minister Tk5,00,000 from Tk3,00,000.
Earlier on Sunday, two other bills seeking to nearly double the salary and other related benefits of the speaker, the deputy speaker and members of parliament were placed in the parliament.
In 2009, the salaries of the president, the prime minister, the ministers, the state ministers and the deputy ministers were raised.
Besides, their other allowances including house maintenance, daily allowance and conveyance allowance will also be increased.
