There are 17,51,503 individual tax payers in the country, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith has said.
Replying to a query, the minister told the parliament on Monday that 17,51,503 individual pay tax in the country.
The government has taken various steps to increase the taxes net and to increase amount of taxes, he said.
Responding to another query, the finance minister said the government has the plan to set up tax office in every upazila to increase tax net and amount of taxes.
He also said tax offices have already been set up in 85 upazilas and offices will be set up in the rest of the upazilas gradually.
