Countrywide drive against drug traders from February

Update : 24 Jan 2016, 09:08 AM

The Director General of the Narcotics Control Department (NCD) Khandakar Rakibur Rahman has said they will launch drives against drug peddlers across the country from February.

He made the disclosure while addressing the grand finale and prize distribution ceremony of the Anti-Drug Debate Festival at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation on Sunday afternoon.

The Narcotics Control Department and Debate for Democracy jointly organised the programme.

Dhaka Cantonment Girls College became the champions. Shaheed Police Smriti College were first runners-up and South Point School and College were second runners-up in the debate competition.

"The Narcotics Control Department is ready to face any challenge in order to prevent young people from getting addicted to drugs," the NCD DG said.

"It is not possible to control drug addiction through political pledges. The public must be determined to solve the problem,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, speaking as chief guest at the programme, said.

The minister expressed hope that young people will be able to move the country towards development.

"Drugs are not being prepared in Bangladesh. They usually come from other countries. We have talked to the Indian Border Security Force to check drug smuggling and they have assured us help in this regard," he said.
