19 dead as mammoth snowstorm hits eastern US 

A blizzard that has paralyzed much of the US East Coast intensified on Saturday, bringing Washington to a standstill and forcing the closure of roads, bridges and tunnels into New York until Sunday morning.

Minister Shahriar warns expats on Facebook 

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam has warned Bangladeshi expatriates around the world against getting involved in incidents like that of Singapore. The warning came within a couple of days after a Singapore news outlet revealed that 27 Bangladeshis had been arrested and deported on suspicion of radicalism.

Journalist leader Altaf Mahmud dies 

Altaf Mahmud, president of the pro-Awami League faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), has died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Sunday morning. He was 66.

Another victim of Gazipur factory blast dies 

Another victim, who was injured in the boiler blast in Gazipur, has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital. Abdul Quader, 60, died at the hospital's burn unit early Sunday, taking the death toll to six in the incident.

President: Altaf Mahmood's death an irreparable loss 

President Abdul Hamid has said the death of journalist Altaf Mahmood is an irreparable loss to the country's journalism. In a condolence message, the president expressed deep shock at the death of the BFUJ president. Abdul Hamid said the contribution of Altaf Mahmood to journalism will ever be remembered.

102 policemen to be honoured for outstanding service in 2015 

Bangladesh Police will award 102 officers with service medals for outstanding work done in 2015. The policemen are being recognised for their contributions to public service, courage and ability to investigate cases.
