Minister Shahriar warns expats on Facebook

Update : 24 Jan 2016, 04:47 AM

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam has warned Bangladeshi expatriates around the world against getting involved in incidents like that of Singapore.

The warning came within a couple of days after a Singapore news outlet revealed that 27 Bangladeshis had been arrested and deported on suspicion of radicalism.

In a Facebook post written in Bangla on Sunday, the minister said: “Incidents like Singapore should not repeat.”

Addressing Bangladeshis across the world, Shahriar Alam said: “Don’t bring misery upon yourselves.”

Referring to posts and shares made on Facebook by the expatriates, he said: “Such posts definitely harm the country. But, even before that, it harms you and your family.

“Do not forget that none of you are out of surveillance.”

Shahriar urged them not to "bring a halt to your lives that are built at a cost of a lot of sufferings hoping for a good future."
