Two dead as SUST teacher loses control of car

At least two people, including a college teacher, have been killed as a car allegedly run by a Shahjalal University of Science and Technology teacher run over them while learning driving on the campus, police said.

The tragic accident took place at the entrance of the SUST campus Saturday morning.

One of the victims has been identified as Ataur Rahman, a lecturer of Chhatak Degree College, while the identity of the other, an elderly man, has not been confirmed.

Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Akhter Hossain said: “Arif Ahmed, a teacher of industrial and production engineering department, has recently bought a car and he has been learning driving with it on the campus around 11:30am Saturday. At one stage, he lost control of his vehicle at the entrance of the campus and knocked down the two.”

The elderly man died on the spot and Ataur succumbed to his injures on the way to hospital.

A SUST student named Selina was also injured in the accident.

Police seized the killer car and sent the bodies to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC continued.
