Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday demanded that an effective law be enacted to control unbridled house rent in order to ease the sufferings of tenants.
While addressing a rally in the capital, they said Dhaka has turned into an unlivable city where the lower-income group and middle-class people are not able to bear the growing house rent, putting their lives in difficulty.
The CPB organised the rally in front of its Mukti Bhaban office in the capital prior to a procession protesting repression on hawkers and imperialism and militancy.
CPB leaders Sajedul Haque Rubel, Sekandar Hayat, Narayan Chakrabartee, Nurul Islam Gazi and Murshiqul Islam, among others, spoke at the rally.
