State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has asked everyone to start using renewable energy resources, as a part of the move towards sustainable development.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the first-ever solar-powered easy bike charging station in Keraniganj, Dhaka yesterday, he lauded the initiative of using tapped sunlight to recharge easy bikes, the three-wheelers that run on batteries.
The charging station is an initiative of the Rural Electrification Board of Bangladesh (REB) realised under the supervision of Dhaka Palli Bidyut Samity 2.
Nasrul said because of the Padma Bridge, the importance of this particular area – Keraniganj – has increased.
The event was also attended by Food Minister Qamrul Islam, who inaugurated the station as chief guest, and REB Chairman Maj Gen Moin Uddin.
The easy bike charging station in Keraniganj initially has the provision and capacity to provide charging facility to 20-22 easy bikes at a time. Easy bike owners are required to pay Tk50 per charging, said REB officials.
