A Dhaka court has ordered a judicial probe into a case filed against four police officers and a constable for sexually harassing a woman in an effort to intimidate her in connection with a prior family dispute.
Dhaka Women and Children Repression Tribunal 2 Judge Shafiul Azam passed the order after recording the statement of petitioner Shirin Akter Shila, wife of Sahidul Islam of Uttar Kutubkhali in Jatrabari.
The accused in the case are Jatrabari OC Abani Sankar, SI Jasim, SI Jamal, constable Debashish and Mugda SI Abdul Kader.
According to the statement, plaintiff Shirin’s younger brother Imran Hossain married Mugda SI Abdul Kader’s daughter. But Kader did not approve of the marriage.
Kader then filed a case with Jatrabari police station against Imran, Shirin and their brother Tutul.
On December 3, Imran, Shirin and Tutul were called to Jatrabari police station.
Police officers including OC Abani Sankar later sexually harassed Shirin in connection with the dispute over her brother's marriage.
