Sabila Nur is one of the few youngsters who is exceptionally popular among the present generation. Starting her career with a TVC in 2010, these days Sabila is in the midst of a packed schedule as she continues shooting for Ekdin Chuti Hobe, House Number 44, Adorsho Lipi and Calling Bell. Apart from these projects under her belt, she is also shooting for a few single episodes and a few drama serials as well. Today we sit down with her for a quick chat about her past successes, her current projects and who inspires her the most.
Was being an actor your childhood dream?
No. Interestingly, when I was about to sit for my “O” level exams, I realised that science is not my cup of tea and ever since, my perspective has changed accordingly. When I stood infront of the camera in 2010, surprisingly, I wasn’t nervous at all since I used to learn dancing as a child. As I kept working along the lines of acting, slowly but surely, my dreams changed.
Monkey Business received positive reviews. You also sang Jajabor Pakna in the drama - do you tend to continue singing?
I got amazing response for Jajabor Pakna. I was also offered to sing for some other albums but since I am not essentially a singer, I decided against it. In my opinion, a man needs to concentrate on the career path he excels at and is used to. Monkey Business was a turning point for my career. On top of that, I also got fabulous response after doing U-turn and that is something I can never forget.
TVC or drama serials – which one do you prefer?
I like both, but it’s difficult to understand someone’s acting ability in 30 seconds, as is the case with TVC’s. As a result, I give more priority to drama serials.
Any plans to venture into the film industry?
Cinema is a very big platform and I believe before anyone steps onto that platform, we must take into consideration our experience, age, etc. That’s why, as of now, I don’t think it’s the right time for me to get into the big screen – I don’t want to get lost in the times.
Who is your greatest inspiration?
My mom is my main source of inspiration. Whether it was dancing or singing, I always had my mother encourage me.
Your favourite actress?
Without a doubt, Aparna Ghosh. As both her and I hail from Chittagong, our chemistry is on a different level.
Your favourite director?
Interestingly, I have been able to work with almost every director that I truly admire. From them, Piplu, Amitabh Reza, Imraul Rafat or Mabrur Rashid are my favourites while Animesh Aich is also very dear to me.
How do you spend your free time?
I love to read books, watch movies and listen to music when I’m free.
Any future plans you want to tell us about?
I believe in living in the present, rather than the past. As of now, I don’t want to worry about the future but I want to focus on the now, on bettering myself as an actor- and that is my main goal.
