SI Masud suspended for torturing BB official

Mohammadpur police station Sub-Inspector Masud Sikder has been suspended for allegedly torturing a Bangladesh Bank official and threatening him with death.

Maruf Hossain Sarder, deputy commission (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DPM) told the Dhaka Tribune that Masud was suspended on Saturday for his alleged involvement in torturing Bangladesh Bank Assistant Director Golam Rabbi.

Golam Rabbi, who works in the communications section of the Bangladesh Bank, alleged that the SI had tortured him on January 9 in Tajmahal Road area in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

SI Masud took away his wallet and some other documents and threatened to arrest him by showing him as a yaba trader unless he paid Tk5 lakh, Rabbi said.

When the banker refused to pay the money, the SI allegedly threatened to put him in “crossfire” and dump his body in the Beribadh area.

The next morning, Rabbani lodged a complaint with the Mohammadpur police station.

Later, Masud Sikder was closed immediately after the incident.

On Friday, the Police Headquarters formed a three-member committee, led by Additional DIG Harun-or-Rashid, to investigate the allegations of torture on Rabbi and DSCC official Bikash, and submit a report by seven working days.
