Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday said full implementation of Chittagong Hill Tract treaty was a challenge for both the government and residents of the hill districts.
The minister said the government and locals of the CHT should not turn their back over implementation of the peace treaty.
The minister said this while addressing a discussion marking the four decades of the CHT Development Board.
The CHT Development Board was working for the improvement of the people of hill tract. The board was also working for the improvement and preservation of custom, culture of the CHT people.
Presided over by Nobo Bikram Tripura, secretary of the CHT Development Board, the programme was addressed by Bir BahadurMP, RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury MP, chairman of CHT affairs parliamentary committee, Kujendra Lal Tripura, lawmaker of Khagrachhari and MP for reserved woman seat Firoza Begum Chinu.
On the occasion, a procession was brought out that paraded several roads of the district town.
The Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord was signed between the government and the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (United People’s Party of the Chittagong Hill Tracts) on December 2, 1997.
