Rekha, who has always made her presence felt at awards events, presented the Power Packed Performer Award to Aishwarya for making an impressive comeback with the Sanjay Gupta thriller, Jazbaa, after a hiatus of five years at the Sansui Stardust Awards function.
During her acceptance speech, Ash is believed to have said, “Thank you, Maa”.
Aishwarya’s father-in-law- Amitabh Bachchan wore a deadpan expression as Ash shared the stage with Rekha. He was seated in the first row among the audiences and his expression was immediately caught by the cameras.
For the uninitiated, Rekha and Bachchan were believed to have been in love many years ago, making this an interesting capture.
Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan essayed the role of Umrao Jaan, in the remake of a namesake Hindi classic originally featuring Rekha in the titular role. Not only that, to Ash, Rekha is just like her mother and she is very fond of her from the very beginning. So calling her “Maa” was just an expression of showing respect, sources claim.
