Acclaimed British film and theatre actor Alan Rickman has passed away on Thursday in London, his family confirmed. The famous movie star had been battling cancer.
Rickman is known worldwide for starring in a number of blockbuster films including the Harry Potter franchise and Die Hard.
Rickman won BAFTA and the Golden Globe award among countless others.
His most memorable roles include tasty and unique portrayal of Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films. His other notable films include Sense and Sensibility, Love Actually, Truly, Madly, Deeply.
Rickman also directed the award-winning play My Name is Rachel Corrie in 2005, which is based on the death of an American activist Rachel Corrie who was killed in Palestine by an Israeli bulldozer as she was acting as a human shield to stop house demolition in occupied Palestinian territory.
