BB governor satisfied with action against police official

Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman has expressed satisfaction over the official action taken against the accused police officer who tortured a central bank official.

A BB official told the Dhaka Tribune that the governor made the pleasure in a letter written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque on Wednesday.

BB's Public Relations Officer and also General Manager Asaduzzaman said: “The governor has expressed satisfaction over the official action taken against the accused police officer.”

He said the letter was issued following harassment of a Bangladesh bank official by policemen.

Atiur Rahman, in the letter, has also urged to police to ensure security of every citizen of the country.

However, the governor also observed the overall law and order situation as satisfactory.

Meanwhile, a team from the central bank visited Golam Rabbi at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was admitted after the police torture.

Golam Rabbi, an assistant director of Bangladesh Bank, was allegedly tortured by a team of police led by Sub-inspector Masud Shikder of Mohammadpur police station on Saturday night.

Later, the police official was closed on Monday morning for allegedly torturing Rabbi and threatening him with death.
