The Cabinet approved the draft of Hajj Package 2016 in its meeting at the Secretariat in the capital yesterday, with Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina in chair.
This year, the government is offering two packages: Package 1 will cost around Tk360,000 and includes the fee of Qurbani – the ritual of sacrificing animals on Eid-ul-Azha – and Package 2, which does not include Qurbani fee, will cost around Tk304,000.
“There will be two packages for the Hajj pilgrims this year. The cost has increased by Tk6,000-7,000 because of rising dollar rate,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters after the meeting.
Legal private hajj agencies will be allowed to introduce a maximum of two packages for the pilgrims. The fundamental cost of private packages has been fixed at Tk155,441, he said.
“However, the agencies can include charges for house rent, food, medicine and other facilities to the fundamental cost.”
Around 113,868 people will be permitted to go on Hajj, among whom 5,000 pilgrims will be permitted to avail the government packages.
