Unable to endure the shock of wife's untimely demise, a man has committed suicide in the district's Sadar upazila.
The incident took place at Borasola village early Sunday.
According to family members, Md Kabir Khan, 47, took pesticide around 12 midnight, soon after he received the news of his wife's death.
Anwar Khan, one of the neighbours of the couple, said Kabir Khan's wife Asma Begum had long been suffering from cancer. “On Saturday night, she died at her father's house at Basundia of Jessore.
“He begot severe mental agonies after getting the death news and took pesticide. Sensing the matter, locals took him to the district Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead.”
The couple is survived by two children.
Sadar police station Assistant Sub-inspector Zillur Rahman said an unnatural death case has been registered in this connection.
