Late last year, Netflix picked up the rights to stream the latest film in the Star Wars franchise. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be available to stream and watch on Netflix later this year. But here’s the catch. It will only be available for subscribers in Canada.
Unfortunately, this is due to the timing of Disney’s pay-TV distribution deals that were up for grabs. In the process, the US premium cable channel Starz picked up the exclusive deal with Disney to stream Episode 7 of Star Wars. The viewing will begin after eight months of the film’s initial release. Released this past December, the streaming of the film will begin in August of 2016. After this important deal, Netflix is aiming to take it a step further, after recently opening up their services to over 200 countries around the world. The company seeks to retain the film for their service, but it looks like a longshot, as there are still ongoing discussions over the availability of the older Star Wars films in the franchise.
