First phase of Bishwa Ijtema begins Friday

The first phase of Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslims after the Hajj, is set to begin Friday on the bank of Turag river at Tongi.

Thousands of Muslim devotees have already reached the venue of the Ijtema. The congregation will conclude on Sunday through 'Akheri Munajat'.

The three-day congregation includes delivering sermons, special prayer and recitation from the Quran and Hadith.

The Ijtema will begin with 'Ambayan' (general sermon) after Fazar prayers on Friday.

The second phase of the Ijtema will begin on January 15 and conclude on January 17 through another Akheri Munajat.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages on the eve of the Ijtema. They have greeted all the devotees and wished success of the event.

All preparations for holding the Bishwa Ijtema have already been completed.
