Transport workers yesterday called strike for January 18 and 31 in Chittagong division.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation announced the strike at a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club in the morning.
The transport operators threatened that they would refrain from plying all types of transport on the streets in greater Chittagong on January 18 from 6am till 2pm and on January 31 from dawn-to-dusk.
“On 19 August 2015, Nurul Islam, secretary of Chittagong Metropolitan Human Hauler Paribahan Shramik Union, was abducted by some miscreants. Later, he was rescued by police after two days and a case was lodged in this connection. “Police should submit the final report accusing the real culprit behind the abduction of our fellow,” said Mohammad Musa, president (Chittagong region) of the organisation.
