Update : 06 Jan 2016, 07:07 PM

A three-day international conference on renewable energy is going to be held at United International University in the capital from today.

Titled “4th International Conference on the Development in Renewable Energy Technology”, the conference was organised by the university at its Dhanmondi campus.

State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will inaugurate the conference.

“A large number of participants are expected to join the conference that will mainly focus on the development of solar energy-based mini grid, nano grid, system without inverter, and solar-pump irrigation,” said Shahriar A Chowdhury, director of the university’s Centre for Energy Research.

“After the Kyoto Protocol and Cancun Conference, the world community is getting closer towards a unified collaborative effort to curb greenhouse gas emission.

“The scale of the problem has been taken seriously by most of the developed nations. Promotion of Renewable Energy and adoption of enhanced efficiency at every stage has been envisaged,” he said.

Shahriar said like the previous conferences, participation from all tiers of the renewable energy sector was expected to make the conference a useful forum for sharing experiences, exchanging views and helping to forge a long-lasting bond among the academia, the industry and the people involved in popularising the technology at the grassroots level.

“Although renewable energy is still expensive, the rapid fall in the price of solar PV panels and other renewable energy technologies has rejuvenated the hope for wider use of this form of energy throughout the world.

“Both the developed and the developing countries are taking equally optimistic approach towards popularising renewable energy technologies and are working together to make this world livable for our next generation,” added Shahriar.
