Abid Azad of the Dhaka Tribune was given an award yesterday at the first BRAC Media Awards on Migration. Initiated by the BRAC Migration Programme, the award ceremony took place at BRAC Centre in Mohakhali.
“It is an amazing and satisfying experience to receive such an award for the job I have done.”
Abid's series on migration and human trafficking won recognition, and his efforts to shed more light on the unseen truth of such harsh realities were met with much praise.
“When I went to work on human trafficking issues in Teknaf in the Cox's Bazar disctrict, it was full of challenges, risks and experiences,” said Abid. “I was threatened and forced to leave the Teknaf area when I got to enter the den of human trafficking brokers network. However, I came out with all my series reports successfully.”

Jebun Nesa Alo of the Dhaka Tribune was awarded the DRU Best Reporting Award in the Economic category at the annual DRU Best Reporting Awards 2015. Hosted at the Shilpakala Academy by the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Alo received praise for her article titled “Directors of state-run banks doling out cash.” Her work included a detailed report on the many irregularities of how these banks continued to flout rules of lending credit despite severe criticism, in the wake of a number of loan scams that ravaged the banking sector in recent years.
