The activists of Gonojagoron Moncho have demanded the immediate execution of the verdict against Jamaat-e-Islami chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.
Moncho spokesperson Imran H Sarker made the demand in an immediate reaction after the verdict of the Supreme Court on Wednesday morning.
He said: “With this verdict, we got justice after so many years. We urged the government to execute the verdict without any delay.
He also expressed satisfaction with the Appellate Division's verdict that upheld the death sentence of the former minister.
Earlier in the day, a four-member bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha upheld the war tribunal’s death sentence awarded to the Jamaat-e-Islami chief for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
He was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal on October 29, 2014. Later, he appealed against the sentence on November 23 the same year.
