Ellen, the generous

Update : 05 Jan 2016, 06:29 PM

Ellen is one of the few celebrities who stand up to their names, literally. She has donated and worked with over 23 charity foundations. It is not just money that she donates but also provides her affection and support for the underprivileged; a heart full of spirit and generosity.

To recognise such a crowd-pleasing, talented and devoted person, Ellen DeGeneres is being honoured by People’s Choice Awards. Coming January 6, Ellen will be handed over the Favourite Humanitarian Award at a fan-voted ceremony, aired by CBS. On receiving the congratulatory, Emmy-winning talk-show host Ellen commented saying, “this award sums me up perfectly as both a human and an itarian.” The prestigious award will be accompanied by a check for USD200,000, which she will be donating to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause she is very passionate about.

Ellen joined the stage at a very young age, entertaining millions with her witty sense of humour. Her career started with performances at small clubs and coffee houses after her debut as an emcee at Clyde’s Comedy Club in 1981. During 1980s, she went on tours nationally and earned the tag of being the funniest person in America. With all that talent, Ellen soon started getting bigger breaks and finally starred in The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1986, which led to her success on her very own talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show (2003).
