Five Chinese citizens have received severe injuries as they locked in a scuffle with the security guards of a steel mills over trivial matter in the district's Araihazar upazila.
The incident took place at RM Steel Mills located in Satgram union of the upazila around 6pm Monday.
The victims—Hu Kong, Li Jingming, Liou Jong, Chung Yang Kong and Yan Wong—are the employees of the steel mill.
Satgram Union Parshad Chairman Wadud Mahmud told the Dhaka Tribune: “The Chinese nationals engaged in an altercation with the chief of the security guards, Rafiq Miah, over opening the gates of the factory on Monday afternoon. Later, the foreigners beat up some staff of the steel mill.
“In retaliation, the security guards beat the Chinese citizens up, leaving them injured.”
The injured were taken to the Upazila Health Complex and later they were shifted to a private hospital in Dhaka.
Araihazar police station OC Shakhawat Hossain said: “We have detained Rafiq Miah immediately after being informed of the incident.”
