Update : 03 Jan 2016, 06:35 PM

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Nojibur Rahman yesterday urged the income tax officials to work honestly and relentlessly for delivering better services to the taxpayers.

“The Prime Minister has asked the taxes authorities to work on expansion of the tax base, instead of putting more pressure on the existing taxpayers,” said a NBR press statement released yesterday.

According to the press release, The NBR chief has also requested the additional assistant tax commissioners to work in a more efficient way by ensuring taxpayers friendly atmosphere in their respective workplaces.

The NBR Chairman came up with the pleas while addressing as the chief guest at an inaugural session of a two-month long training for additional assistant income tax commissioners in the BCS Tax Academy.

The authorities have taken up different subject-wise initiatives to increase its income tax officials professional knowledge and skills and the training was organised as part of the move.

A total of 20 tax officials from different tax zones will be trained in the next two months in the academy.

Nojibur Rahman said, “The initiative for training tax officials will help NBR turn into a revenue-friendly institution and will help its officials to work for establishing good governance and implementing modern management policy in NBR.”

The NBR usually collects 85% of the internal revenue for the country’s development. From the total revenue target, the NBR is responsible for generating Tk1,76,371 crore revenue in the ongoing ongoing fiscal year.

“Achieving the huge revenue target is a challenging task,” Nojibur said urging the NBR officials to work restlessly for reaching the target.
