Students celebrate first day of year with new books

Like previous years, students of primary and junior levels celebrated the first day of the year with new books across the country. 

Students in Rajshahi received textbooks in festive mood. Yesterday, primary and secondary level students started getting new books in festive mood in the city and nine upazilas of the district.

According to district education office, book distribution ceremony was arranged in each of the schools to handover books among the students.

District and upazila level officials’ concerned, public representative and local elites were present at all their respective functions to inspire the students.

In Rajshahi city, divisional, metropolitan and district level high officials launched the book distribution ceremony held at PTI Primary School.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi Education Board School and College organised a colourful book distribution function on its premises with Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain in the chair.

Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Primary Education Abul Khayer said the requisite books had been sent to all 14,151 schools in eight districts under Rajshahi division.

In Khulna, a total of 24,559,677 textbooks were distributed among primary and junior level students.

Lawmaker of Khulna constituency 2 inaugurated the book festival at playground of Khulna Zila School in the morning.

In Barisal, book festival for free distribution of primary and secondary school level text books started amid festivity.

A total of 4,331,721 out of required 59,52,099 copies books for primary level students reached the concerned institutions till Thursday, said divisional office of primary education.

The rest number of books would be reached within next week, said Mahbub E Elahi, deputy director of primary education Barisal divisional office.

In Pabna, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif yesterday urged the guardians, teachers and affluent section of society to groom the students as architects of ‘Sonar Bangla’ of Banganabdhu.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a function for distribution of free textbook among the students at Ishurdi Sara Maroari Model School and College. A total of 168,00 textbooks were distributed among 1,200 students free of cost at the function.

In Ishurdi, 15,000 students of 63 secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions got 4,40,000 textbooks. Another 2,46,000 books would be distributed among the primary school students.

The minister said the government of Sheikh Hasina will distribute 33 crore textbooks this year across the country. He advised the students to attend their classes regularly.

Shamsur Rahman Sharif said all would have to work together under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to make Bangladesh a developed country by 2041.

This year the government is distributing nearly 33,37,62,760 textbooks among 4,44,16,728 students of pre-primary to secondary level for 2016 academic session across the country.

In 2010, the government began distributing free textbooks among students of secondary schools. Free distribution of books among the primary school students began in 1981.
