Update : 30 Dec 2015, 06:47 PM

The BNP is set to brief media Thursday about the party's stance over Wednesday's municipality polls.

The press conference will be held at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’ s Gulshan office at 11am, said Syrul Kabir Khan, BNP chief's media wing official.

He said: “BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to address the journalists. He will disclose the party's next course of action during tomorrow's [Thursday] briefing.”

Earlier, BNP chief convened an urgent meeting of the party’s senior leaders on Wednesday night, soon after the vote counting began.

While addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Mirza Fakhrul has accused the government of rigging the municipal elections and demanded that voting be re-held in municipalities that had been occupied by the ruling party men.

He claimed that municipal elections had turned farcical as per the blueprint of the government.

“We were apprehensive that a farcical election would be held and our premonition just came true,” he told reporters at a press conference at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office.

Fakhrul claimed that fair elections were not possible to be held as long as the incumbent government was in office as it would not allow any such election to be held.
