Live update: Municipality polls 2015

Elections to 234 municipalities in the country have begun. The voting started at 8am and will continue till 4pm Wednesday. This election is the start of the country's maiden local government polls on partisan lines.

11:40pm: In Magura municipality, 11 ruling party members have been elected councilors in 12-member panel. Ruling party nominated candidate wins the mayoral post.

11:35pm: In Comilla, Awami League wins five mayoral posts while BNP wins only one.

11:30pm: Awami League nominated candidates win in four municipalities in Sunamganj. Ruling party men have been elected mayors in all six municipalities in Jamalpur. Awami League candidates win in Lalmonirhat and Narail. They have also been elected mayors in all 10 municipalities in Chittagong. In Kishoreganj, six ruling party men and one rebel candidate win.

11:25pm: BNP-backed candidate Mizanur Rahman has been elected mayor in Tanor municipality while his party man Ashraful Haque wins in Putia polls. Ruling party candidates were elected mayors in five municipalities in Chandpur. In Kurigram, ruling party's Abdul Jalil wins and in Nageswari, Jatiya Party's Abdur Rahman wins.

11:10pm: In Gournadi Municipality Harisur Rahman Haris of ruling party wins the mayoral race while his party fellows Subhas Chandra Shil, Safikuzzaman, Giasuddin and Likman Hossain have been elected mayors respectively in Banaripara, Muladi, Wazirpur and Bakerganj. Ruling party rebel candidate Sirajul Jobbar wins in Sylhet's Golapganj polls.

11:08pm: Ruling party nominated Kamruzzaman and Aminur Rashid have been elected mayors respectively in Narsingdi and Monohordi municipality polls. In Rangamati, Awami League's Akbar Hossain has been elected.

10:53pm: Awami League's Rafiqul Islam Sana and Masud Parvez win respectively in Goplapur and Madhobpur.

10:45pm:  BNP candidates Makbul Hassain and Jahirul Islam win respectively in Nouhata and Charghat municipality polls while ruling party nominated Golam Rabbani and Abbas Ali have been elected mayors respectively in Mundumala and Katakhali. Awami League's Hazi Abdul Goni wins in Savar municipality polls.

10:35pm: In Mymensingh, ruling party's Iqbal Hossain, Rafiqul Islam, Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan, Mesbah Uddin and Golam kibria win respectively in Goforgaon, Gouripur, Nandail, Bhaluka and Fulbaria. BNP-backed candidates Aminul Islam and Shahidul Islam win respectively in Fulpur and Muktagachha. Awami League rebel candidates MA Sattar and ABM Anisuzzaman win respectively in Iswarganj and Trishal.

10:30pm: BNP rebel candidate Kamrul Siddique Jewel has been elected mayor in Nandigram of Bogra.

10:20pm: In Chapainawabganj Sadar, independent candidate Nazrul Islam wins and in Sirajganj Sadar, Awami League nominated Toiub Abdur Rab Mukta Siraji wins. Jamilur Rahman of Awami League wins in Tangail Sadar.

10:00pm: Awami League's Mostafizur Rahman wins in Joypurhat Sadar while his party fellow Abdur Rashid wins in Nachol polls. In Rohonpur, BNP nominated Tariqul Ahmed wins and independent candidate Rakibul Haque has been elected mayor in Shibganj. Awami League's Masudul Haque Masum wins in Tangail's Bhuapur polls.

09: 45pm: Ruling party's Mohammad Faisal wins in Munshiganj, his party fellow Latifur Rahman wins in Mohonganj. In Paikgachha, Awami League's Selim Jahangir and in Borhanuddin his party's Rashidul Islam wins. Ruling party's Kamal Uddin wins in Mehendiganj while BNP's Nazim Uddin wins in Chunarughat. Independent candidates Sufi Alam Unius and Nizam Uddin respectively win in Kulaura and Kanaighat municipalities. 

09:40pm: In Satkhira Sadar, BNP's Taskin Ahmed wins and his party fellow Akhtarul Islam has been elected mayor in Kolaroa.

09:30pm:  In Jessore, ruling party nominated Sushanta Kumar, Kamruzzaman, Nuruddin al Mamun, Rafiqul Islam and Mahmudul hasan win respectively in Noapara, Bagatipara, Choughachha, Keshabpur and Monirampur. In Bagerhat Sadar, Awami League's Khan habibur Rahman has been elected mayor while in Morelganj his party fellow Monirul Haque wins.

09:24pm: Ruling party's Nurul Islam wins in Dhamrai municipality while his party fellow Manjurul Islam wins in Tangail's Dhanbari.

09:15pm: In Tangail's Shakhipur ruling party's Abu Selim Azad wins while his party man Shahadat Hossain wins in Mirzapur municipality and in Kalihati, BNP nominated Ali Akbar has been elected mayor.

09:07pm: Awami League nominated Saifuddin Mondol, Zannatul Fredous, Abdul Barek and Uma Chowdhury win respectively in Naotre's Naldanga, Singra, Baraigram and Sadar municipalities.

09:05pm: In Chandanaish municipality, AL nominated Mahabubul Alam wins while his party's Mohammad Jubair has been elected mayor in Satkania.

09:00pm: In Joypurhat's Kalai and Akkelpur ruling party nominated Khandokar Halimul Alom and Golam Mahmud wins respectively. In Nazipur, Rezaul Islam Chowdhury has been elected mayor while ruling party's Monirul Islam wins in Godagari.

08:50pm: in Pabna Sadar, independent candidate Kamrul Hasan wins  and in Sathia Awami League's Merajul Islam wins.

08:45pm: In Natore's Goplapur BNP nominated Nazrul Islam has been elected mayor while in Gurudaspur ruling party-backed Shahjahan Ali wins.

08:30pm: In Bogra's Gabtoli, BNP nominated candidate Saiful Islam wins while his party's Tofazzal Hossain wins in Shantahar. Ruling party's Abdus Sattar, Touhidur Rahman, AGM Badsha, Alamgir Shahi and Helal Uddin have been elected mayors respectively in Sherpur, Shibganj, Dhunot, Shariakandi and Kahalu.

08:25pm: In Sirajganj's Shahjadpur municipality, Awami League nominated Halimul Haque Miru has been elected mayor while his party's Nizam Uddin, Abdullah al Pathan, SM Nazrul Islam and Ashanur Biswas win respectively in Kazipur, Raiganj, Ullahpara and Belkhuchi.

08:23pm: Awami League rebel candidate Gazi Kamrul Huda wins in Manikganj municipality polls.

08:20pm: In Rajshahi's Teherpur Awami League nominated Abul Kalam Azad wins while his party's Shahiduzzaman, Abdul Majid Master, Mukter Ali and Tofazzal Hossain have been elected mayors respectively in Keshorhat, Kakanhat, Arani and Durgapur.

08:15pm: In Raujan municipality, Awami League nominated Debashis Palit has been elected mayor while AL nominated Giash Uddin, Badiul Alam, Shahjahan Sikdar and Nizamuddin have won respectively in Mirsharai, Sitakunda, Rangunia and Baraiarhat.

08:10pm: Ruling party rebel candidate, also the present mayor of Barguna municipality Shahadat Hossain wins again. In Patharghata ruling party candidate Anwar Hossain has been elected Mayor.

08:05pm: Abdullah al Mamun of Awami League has been elected mayor again in Gaibandha's Sundarganj municipality.

08:00pm:  Awami League-backed candidate Abdul Wahab Ali wins in Sujanagar municipality polls while Golam Hasnain Rajon, Kamruzzaman Mazed and Abul Kalam Azad Minto of the same party have been elected mayors respectively in Bhangura, Faridpur and Iswardi. Ruling party rebel candidate Mirza Rezaul Karim has been elected mayor in Chatmohar.

07:50pm: In Rajshahi's Bhabaniganj, Awami League-backed candidate Abdul Malek has been elected Mayor.

07:30pm: Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Moniruzzaman Moni wins in Bhola municipality polls. In Dawlatkhan, ruling party's Jakir Hossain wins in the mayoral race. In Borhanuddin, Awami League-backed Rafiqul Islam elected mayor.

06:30pm: Awami League-backed mayoral candidate Abdul Quader Bhuiyan wins in Noakhali's Bashurhat municipality polls. 

04:40pm: Five people said to be Awami League supporters have been arrested from a centre in Bhaniganj municipality for entering the centre forcibly.

04:30pm: Voters at three centres in Naldanga municipality are staging demonstration as the polling officers declared that ballot papers were out of stock around 3:50pm.

04:20pm: Some eight to 10 supporters of AL-backed mayor candidate Manikganj Sadar municipality entered into Motto Govt Primary Boys School centre around 2:45pm and stamped fake votes snatching ballot papers.

04:15pm: BNP's acting Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the election had once again destroyed the country's electoral system. He brought allegations of ballot snatching, attacks on journalists by ruling party activists. He also said the election commission hadn't consulted with BNP whether they wanted to run with the party symbol. Another BNP leader Osman Faruk said vote rigging had broken all past records. Meanwhile,  HT Imam, who heads the election steering committee of the Awami League, said BNP as usual has created obstacles to holding a peaceful election in a bid to justify their propaganda that election under this government can't be fair.  

04:10pm: An Awami League activists has been held while roaming suspiciously at Bijoypur Primary School centre in Natore's Gopalpur municipality around 3:45pm.

04:00pm: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's adviser HT Imam alleges that BNP supporters take control of several centres in 18 municipalities.

03:50pm: Five police officers have been suspended for negligence in duty during polls in Chandanaish municipality in Chittagong and Kalkini municipality in Madaripur.  

03:30pm: Two BNP-backed mayoral candidates in Narshingdi Sadar and Monohordi municipalities boycotted the polls.

03:00pm: In Narshingdi Sadar municipality, Awami League rebel candidate SM Kaiyum boycotted election on vote rigging allegation

02:25pm: Two BNP activists injured in a clash between the mayor candidate of Awami League and his rebel candidate in Shadhpara Primary School centre in Bhabaniganj municipality in Rajshahi.

02:00pm: Two outsiders held while they were roaming near a polling centre in Gopalpur municipality in Natore. 

01:50pm: Voting resumes in three suspended polling centres in Narshingdi. Now polling remained suspended in two centres.

01:30pm: People are seen stamping ballots in three suspended centres in Madhabdi municipality while the law enforcers were guarding outside the centres, our reporter Abu Hayat Mahmud reports.

01:20pm: Voting resumes in two suspended  centres in Kalai municipality in Joypurhat.

12:30pm: Miscreants vandalised the car of Awami League-backed candidate of Munshiganj municipality. One of his support was also received bullet wounds, our photographer Mehedi Hasan reports from spot.

12:05pm: Awami League supporter have allegedly taken control of three centres in Narshingdi Sadar and Madhabdi municipalities.

11:40am: BNP-backed Mayor candidate Kazi Abdullah Hasan boycotted election on vote rigging in Raozan municipality.

11:35am: Dhamrai Government University College Presiding Officer Akbar Hossain accepts the allegation about ruling party men driving everyone out of the polling centres, reports Abid Azad.

11:15am: Voting in Fazlul Karim kindergarten centre under Madhabdi municipality has been suspended.

11:10am: A BNP polling agent claimed that the supporters of ruling Awami League and everyone to leave the polling centre 10 at Dhamrai Government University College in Ward 5 and keep them outside for 15 minutes, reports Abid Azad.

11:00am: Members of ruling Awami League have allegedly occupied most of the polling centres in Jessore even before the voting began in the municipality.

10:45am: Around 350 ballot papers in total were cancelled in Dhupchora and Alam centres in Kotchadpur upazila of Jhenaidah district, reports Jamil Khan.

10:30am: Around 150 unruly people led by suspended Jubo League activist Abu Bakkar Siddique Tusar entered Shaheed Titumir Academy centre under Manikganj Sadar municipality and started casting fake votes in favour of AL-backed mayor candidate Ramjan Ali, our reporter Aminur Rahman Rabbi reports.

10:00am: Ruling party take control of most of the polling centres in Jessore.

09:30am: Voting in two centres of Chandonaish upazila in Chittagong have been suspended after finding evidence of vote rigging.

08:30am: BNP mayoral candidate Syed Abdul Monshur allegedly attacked by Awami League supporters in Shitakunda, reports Anwar Hussain.
