Voting halted at 5 polling centres

Voting of five polling stations in three districts has been suspended in the face of desperate vote rigging, clash and occupation.

In Chittagong, election officials have suspended voting in two centres of Chandonaish upazila in Chittagong after finding evidence of vote rigging.

The voting were suspended in Aflatun Chowdhury Forkana Madrasa and Gachhbaria AMJ High School on Wednesday morning.

Deputy Commissioner Mezhba Uddin said: “When we entered the polling centre in the Madrasa we found that seals were already put in the ballot papers and they were stuffed in the ballot boxes last night [Tuesday].

"On the other hand, some were putting seals in the ballot paper this morning in the centre at the high school before the voting began.”

Later, the returning officer suspended the voting in the polling centres.

In Narshindi, a fierce clash ensued between AL and BNP supporters at Brahmandi KKM Government Primary School premises in sadar municipality.

At one stage, the presiding officer suspended voting around 10am.

Narail, such sort of untoward incident reported at Purba Kalia Model Govt Primary School polling centre in Kaliakoir municipality and Narail Returning Officer Sheikh Anwar Hossain made the suspension order 10am.

The order appeared centring triangular clash among supporters of AL, AL rebel and BNP mayor candidates.

Besides, voting suspension at Kalia Pilot High School was declared around 11:30am in the face of clash between supporters of AL-backed mayor candidate Wahiduzzaman Hira and AL rebel candidate Musfiqur Rahman Liton.

Returning Officer Sheikh Anwar Hossain announced the order.
