Two militants have been killed during a raid conducted by the members of Rapid Action Battalion in Bhogrha area in Gazipur.
The deceased are Mahbub and Minhaz.
RAB officials said they were members of banned Islami militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh.
RAB legal and media wing Assistant Director Major Maksudul Alam said: “Militants hurled bombs targeting the law enforcers when RAB conducted the raid at an abandoned house in Jogitola village to bust the militant den early Monday.”
In retaliation, RAB officials fired back that left the two militants dead.
In a briefing around 2:15am, RAB Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said: “Four hand grenades and huge amount of explosives were recovered in the drive. Only two of them were present in the house.”
He said the militants might have been plotting to conduct subversive activities.
Gazipur ASP Harun Ur Rashid said: “The two militants were released from Kashimpur Jail on Sunday afternoon. RAB 1 members took them under custody after their release.
“RAB did not formally inform us anything about the matter.”
