Minister: Probe to find who attacked Bagmara mosque

Update : 26 Dec 2015, 09:38 PM

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said whether the bomb blast at the Ahmadiyya mosque in Bagmara upazila, Rajshahi was a suicide attack will be clear after the investigation is complete.

“It is not clear yet whether it is a suicide bomb blast or not; it will be known after investigation,” he said while talking to reporters after attending the opening session of annual general meeting of Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) at Dhaka Reporters Unity as chief guest.

The home minister said: “Two people went to the mosque for offering prayers. One of them died during the blast while another managed to flee the scene. I think the man who was killed in the bomb blast might have been carrying the bomb. It might have exploded accidentally while offering prayers.”

“Anyway, it will be detected who actually carried out the bomb attack,” he said.

Earlier, a suspected young man was killed and eight others injured in a bomb blast at an Ahmadiyya mosque in Mochmoil area of Bagmara upazila on Friday.

Replying to a question, the home minister said Bangladesh is facing lower risk compared to other countries in the world as its intelligence agencies foiled most of the attempts of terrorist acts by arresting the perpetrators.

“We have already detected the clues of all the targeted killings, including that of the Italian and the Japanese nationals as well as police killings in Gabtoli and Ashulia,” he was quoted by UNB.

About the mysterious death of Independent TV’s Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s correspondent Awrangjeb Sajib, the home minister said it will be unearthed whether it was homicide or suicide.

On allegation of misusing the ICT Act, he said the Home Ministry will look into the matter if there is any irregularity in using it.

Chaired by CRAB president Esaraf Hossain Isa, the opening session of the programme was addressed, among others, by former CRAB presidents Parvez Khan, Madusudhan Mandal, Abul Hossain and chief adviser Bashir Ahmed.
