BSF firing kills cattle trader in Thakurgaon

A Bangladeshi cattle trader has been killed in shooting by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Bosalgaon border in Haripur upazila of the district.

The incident took place around 4am Tuesday. The victim is Sree Hemanto, 32. Details about him could not be known yet.

Confirming the incident, Dinajpur 42 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Commander Lt Co Akhtar Ekbal said a patrol team of BSF members from India's Barogaon camp gunned down cattle smuggler Hemanto on the border before dawn when he tried to cut barbed wire to enter the country.

Hemanto died instantly in the firing and the BSF members took the body to their camp.

When contacted over cell phone, commander Akhtar Ekbal said he was on the way to Bosalgaon border for a flag meeting on the issue with the BSF as well as visiting the spot.

The commander went on that Hemanto's body might get return on Wednesday after ending legal formalities.
