Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon announced to free the footpaths in city’s Gulistan area.
The mayor made the announcement while demolished illegal structures on the footpaths in city’s Gulistan area yesterday.
Khokon led the eviction drive started from Golapshah Mazar at Bangabandhu Avenue and local traders tried to resist.
They alleged that the leaders of ruling Awami League’s associate bodies-Jubo League, Swechha Sebak League among others had given permission to run the business.
The mayor also said: “No one will setup their makeshift shops on the footpaths and roads.”
The traders also urged the mayor to take steps to run their business in another suitable place.
