A member of the armed forces who was injured in an attack in Comilla’s Chauddagram upazila on December 10 died in hospital yesterday.
Rashed Tanvir Rubel, who hailed from Mahadebpur village in the upazila’s Kashinagar union, succumbed to injuries at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.
He was critically injured at his house in an attack made by a man named Yasin Miah from the nearby Alipur village in the morning on December 10.
Yasin and his supporters made the attack after an altercation with Rubel’s family over money.
He claimed that Rubel’s brother Nazrul Islam owed him Tk80 lakh when preparations were on to bury Rubel’s father Md Habibullah, who died at a hospital in Dhaka on December 9 and was brought back home the next morning.
Yasin said he would resist Habibullah’s burial if the money was not paid, which later led to a serious altercation.
The attack left at least 10 others injured. Farhad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram police station, said a case had been filed in connection with the attack.
