US State Department's Under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas A Shannon has arrived in Dhaka.
Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque received Shannon at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday morning.
He was accompanied by Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal and Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia Manpreet Singh Anand.
The foreign secretary said Bangladesh and US has matured, multi-layered and growing relationship.
“We will discuss the present and future arenas of cooperation,” he said.
Shannon will have a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
Besides, he will attend a seminar on the US-Bangladesh Relationship: Working Together on Global Issues at Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies in the capital.
Shannon will meet senior government officials and parliamentary leaders, as well as media, civil society, and labor representatives, and will visit a USAID-funded health care clinic.
