A person has reportedly committed suicide after killing his wife in Shafipur Purbopara area under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur.
The deceased are Raihan Ali, 38, and his wife Halima Begum, 30. Raihan was a rickshaw puller and Halima was a worker at a garment factory named Mahmud Denims.
Raihan is the son of Altaf Ali, of Dinajpur and Halima is the daughter of Aminul Islam of the same district.
Mouchak police outpost SI Saiful Alam said: “The couple used to live in a rented house in Gazipur and a long-running conflict prevailed between them. Raihan repeatedly stabbed his wife when she returned from her workplace around 10:30pm Saturday.
“Hearing her scream, locals rushed to their house and noticed Raihan with the knife in his hand. Later, he stabbed himself with the knife.”
The SI continued that local people took Raihan to Shafipur General Hospital where physicians declared him dead.
Later, police sent the bodies to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
