The Election Commission will deploy from today an executive magistrate in each of the 234 municipalities that are going to polls on December 30.
The magistrates will be deployed until December 31, according to an EC decision made last Wednesday.
“As electoral symbols will be distributed on December 13, candidates will finally start campaign from December 14. The executive magistrates will be in the field to take action in case of violation of electoral code of conduct,” EC Seceretary Sirajul Islam.
Additional 970 executive magistrates and 234 judicial magistrates will be present in the polling areas on election day and they will be deployed four days ahead of the election.
The EC issued a letter to the Law Ministry in this regard on December 10 after consulting with the Ministry of Public Administration and the High Court Division.
Following lots of allegations of violation of electoral code of conduct, the EC has warned all 20 political parties that have fielded candidates in the poll.
Deputy Secretary of EC’s election management section Shamsul Alam said: “The magistrates will be in the polling areas as striking forces from December 13 to December 31 to ensure law and order for a free and fair election.”
Today is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.
