During their three-year-long journey, Moja losss? gained massive support from the people, mainly the youths and teens, for speaking their minds on many occasions. The page, however, also drew criticisms in some cases.
They recently criticised the government for its decision of blocking access to Facebook and several other social media sites. On December 4, the page shared a news item that revealed that some ministers and government profiles and pages were active on Facebook despite the ban.
They also made fun of the two ministers concerned for suggesting action would be taken against people for using Facebook through alternative ways.
Moja losss? on December 2 published a photo of the Facebook founder wearing a Mujib coat saying: “Mark Zuckerberg joins Awami League because he wants Bangladesh to have access to Facebook.”
Some fans on those posts wrote that captions of those photo posts criticising the government were offensive, especially the ones concerning a female state minister. The page recently used the photos of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to make troll posts.
The number of admins and content creators for the page is not confirmed, but it is alleged that one Chowdhury Shaheb (pseudonym) runs the page.
Created in February 2012, the page used to publish photo posts and caricatures with witty captions. They began posting items on political issues later that year. One of their regular targets was the then home minister, Sahara Khatun.
When blogger-architect Ahmed Rajeeb Haider was murdered by radical Islamists in February 2013 and labelled by the killers as an “atheist,” Moja losss? in a post likened atheists with animals. The page wrote that no one should regret the death of an atheist.
Many people criticised the motive of the page after its admin urged people to boycott the traditional Pohela Boishakh procession at the TSC of Dhaka University from next year after a series of incidents of sexual harassment during this year’s event. They think the call would inspire the radical Islamists who preach that observing Pohela Boishakh was anti-Islam.
Some people also questioned the page’s motive when it continued to publish photos of some Chhatra League leaders and demanding their arrest for harassing the women on April 14. On the other hand, CCTV footage and other photographs suggested that the movement of several groups of youths around the TSC area in that afternoon were suspicious.
On April 21, when the page claimed that the government’s high officials had asked them to stop operations, none of the admins responded to queries put forward by the media to verify the allegation.
Some Facebook users also accused the page of using their photos in making trolls without taking permission.
Meanwhile, mystery shrouded over a Facebook status posted by Refayat Ahmed, the alleged admin of Moja losss? arrested on Thursday for anti-state and anti-government activities, as he was in police custody at that time.
The post was published in Refayat’s personal profile around 5am Friday which claimed that the allegations against him were fabricated and that he had been a victim of professional jealousy. “Today everyone needs to be Chowdhury Shaheb or whoever they are, everyone is the admin of Moja losss?,” it said.
Refayat is now under a two-day police remand.
