Woman succumbs burn injuries

A woman, who suffered burns to her face and upper body after her husband poured boiled water on her, has succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Partha Sankar Paul, a residential surgeon at the burn unit of the DMCH, told the Dhaka Tribune: “Sara Ahkter, 25, succumbed to her injuries around 4am Friday.”

Sara was admitted to the DMCH burn unit with 20% burns on Sunday when her husband, Yusuf Mohan, 35, poured boiled water on her following an altercation.

Family members said Yusuf often locked in altercations with his wife as he suspected that she had a love affairs with their house owner.

The couple was living in a rented house in the capital's Hazaribagh area.

Hazaribagh police station OC Mir Alimuzzaman told the Dhaka Tribune: “A case has been filed in this connection. But, Yusuf has yet not been arrested as he fled the scene immediately.”

According to the case statement, Yusuf, who is a drug addict, often tortured his wife on suspicion of having love affairs with the house owner.

They locked in an altercation on last Saturday over the issue. Following the dispute, he poured hot water on Sara on Sunday morning, leaving her critically injured.
